Queensland Scouting Association #172 - Scouts
CONGRATULATIONS ON CHOOSING TO BECOME A SCOUT LEADER!!!!
The most important word in that phrase above is "choosing". You could choose be
too busy. You could choose to not care about your children in Scouting. You
could choose to no be part of a community of great people. You could choose to
not be involved in making a difference not only in their lives but in yours as
well.
BUT.....
Your choice to be part of the Queensland Scouting Association was a very
important one. Not only important for the association, not only important for
the children you are helping , but for yourself as well.
Congratulations on making a great choice!!
Becoming a leader involves taking a few steps before all the fun begins.
Step #1 - Tell the Section head / Group registrar / Group commissioner that you
would like to be a leader. Note... just because you have a child in Scouts
doesn't mean that you have to be a Scout leader. You can be a Beaver or Cub
leader if you chose to.
Step #2 - Fill in the required paperwork given to you by the Registrar or Group
Commissioner. The paperwork will consist of your registration for Scouting and a
PRC (Police Records Check) Both are MANDITORY as required by Scouts Canada and
cost you nothing.
Step #3 - Two of the higher up's (Section Leader or Group Commissioner) will
interview you. This is to see if there are any challenges that need to be
addressed, if there are compatibility issues, and for you and us to get a
general feel for each other.
Step #4 - Wait for the word that you have become a leader.
Step #5 - Now that you are a leader you will need a uniform. This can be
acquired from The Scoutshop.

******NOTE******
Anything purchased for Scouting can be expensed back to Scouting as long as the
Section Leader or Group Commissioner Pre-Approves the purchase to be made.
Step #6 - The Section Leader will let you know when the "Investiture" will
happen.
Step #7 - You will need to attend a "Woodbadge 1" Scout course. This is a
mandatory course to teach you how to be a leader. This course is to be taken
with in the first 4 months of becoming a leader or when the first opportunity
arises to do so.
Now that you have been Uniformed, PRC'd, Registered, Accepted, and Woodbadged...
You are now ready to proudly take on the roll of a Scout Leader. ENJOY!!!
